The Chemical Society of Japan in order to help earthquake victims in the Tohoku region has decided to implement a program to provide not only short-term but also continuous mid- to long-term support for primary and secondary school students supporting the chemistry centered science community as well as the next era as a basic policy. In this project, as a primary short-term support measure, primary and secondary student oriented chemistry and science books are being donated to libraries and shelters as reported below.
- 1. Donations to shelters
- In conjunction with publication headquarters of five publishing organizations, CSJ have sent to 19 shelters (seven locations in Iwate Prefecture, eight locations in Miyagi Prefecture, and four locations in Fukushima Prefecture) 19 sets of 15 books, 285 books in total.
- 2. Donations to libraries
- In conjunction with the Japan Library Association, one set of 29 books has been delivered to each of 28 libraries for a total of 812 books. Each book has been wrapped in protective film by the Japan Library Association, and is scheduled for delivery to the affected libraries.
